AlexPH ID: #7027
Alex is an 8 year old male with a beautiful black, shiny coat and nicely curled tail. He is very sweet and follows me everywhere. He doesn’t like crates, but he will sleep in the bed with me or in a bed on the bedroom floor. We are working on house training and his meal time manners. He is heart worm negative and will be getting neutered and a dental on 7/19. I don’t know if he gets along with cats or small children, but he is very laid back. He is handsome and wants nothing more than to be around his human.

Anastasia PH ID: #7219
Please welcome Anastasia to PugHearts. This sweet little girl was surrendered to us at no fault of her own. Anastasia is only 3 years old and unfortunately, is heart worm positive. She is also being treated for hook worms. She scheduled for her spay and nares in early December and will go through heart worm treatment some time afterwards. Although Anastasia won’t be ready for her new home until after treatment, she is looking for a forever family to call her own. Anastasia is crate trained, slept through the night, and has not had any accidents inside. She is great with other dogs and loves children (she has picked my son as her favorite)! Welcome to PugHearts, welcome to the good life, sweet Anastasia, we are so glad you are here!

AnnePH ID: #7033
Anne is a four year female who is Is heartworm positive and currently going through her treatment. This little girl has the sweetest face. She’s slowly but surely coming out of her shell, loves to play with toys, is a good eater, and loves her human. Her house manners are coming along. She still barks at everything she sees when she’s out walking. She does well on a leash. Our walks are still a work in progress.

ApolloPH ID: #7126
Please Welcome Apollo to PugHearts!

Apollo made his way from The Valley. He’s a 5 year old Brindle French Bulldog.

Apollo really is such a sweet boy. He is a true lover and so loyal to his people. By his appearance I cannot imagine his life before PugHearts. He is so skinny with patches of hair missing on his back and tail, presumably from fleas because some parts are raw. His fur is thin and it’s obvious he’s been an outside only dog. Apollo is also heartworm positive. His fear of not getting enough food or another dog being mean to him is not all that surprising.

This poor boy had to fight for survival and now that he has a warm bed to sleep in and he gets 2 yummy meals a day, I’m hoping Apollo understands that he’s safe, he’s secure and he’s loved.

Apollo will need a patient and loving family, preferably as the only dog, that will love him and continue to show him he’s special. Apollo shows no aggression to people, unless you consider massive amounts of kisses aggressive, and he is the best boy at house training and crate training. He constantly wants to assert his dominance to other dogs, especially if he’s worried that he’s losing his food or might have to share my attention. He loves relaxing in the dog bed chewing a nylabone, especially if he has me in his sights. He doesn’t appear to have any anxiety when it comes to separation or being left alone.

Like most Frenchies he’s a little stubborn and hard headed, with a dash of OCD, but learning the best way to redirect him will alleviate most problems.

Apollo was recently neutered, and he had his nares, palate and saccules done as well.

I know Apollo has the perfect home out there waiting for him.

ArchiePH ID: #7086
Archie (4 yrs) has had a rough start at life. He was one of five that PugHearts took from a breeder who dumped them. He lived in an outside pen his entire life and not treated nice by humans. He is also the only one of the five rescued that is heart worm positive.

Archie is scared of his own shadow, cowers near humans and jumps at every little noise. He does, however, get along with other dogs and has not shown any aggression.

His foster mom is showering him with love, patience and a quiet place to decompress and observe other dogs and how they should be treated. Archie will not be ready for adoption until at least December 1st due to heartworm treatment. Availability after that will depend on his timetable and when he is ready to trust humans.

Keep checking back for updates.

ArlonPH ID: #7234

ArnoldPH ID: #7156
Arnold came to us as a stray. He is skinny but healthy, and we are working on helping him put some weight on. Arnold is a sweet, fun and playful Pug. He loves to play with other dogs, loves to run zoomies, he likes chew toys and he cuddles with humans. He doesn’t have a mean/aggressive bone in his body! He loves to sleep under the covers in the humans’ bed. This little love needs his very own family.

AshPH ID: #7104
…and from the ashes, rose a phoenix.

To know Ash’s background, you wouldn’t blame him if he was bitter, surly, or even skittish. But despite his past, Ash is one of the most loving and mild-mannered pugs I have ever met. Due to his history and likely his heart worm diagnosis, he’s a tiny guy at only 16.8 lbs. You’d be forgiven for thinking he was a puppy but, in fact, he is a mature 8 year old. I like to think that for Ash, this is his opportunity to experience the joyous puppyhood he was deprived of. Everything he experiences, he experiences with wonder; from a random treat here and there, walks around the neighborhood, and even chasing dragonflies in the back yard. Like a puppy, he’s still working on some of the fundamentals such as potty training, but he’s demonstrating a real willingness to do what it takes to be a good boy and I have the upmost faith that he will be successful in this endeavor. Ash is an absolute cuddle bug but not quite Velcro. He will give you your space, if needed. He’s scheduled for his neuter on September 12th and will have to undergo treatment for heart worms for a month or two following that. After that, this little man will be absolutely ready to find his forever home, forever lap, and to live his second puppyhood to its fullest!

Aunt BeaPH ID: #7155
Full Description Coming Soon!

AveryPH ID: #6986
Please welcome little baby Avery to PugHearts. This little doll is only 11 weeks old and was surrendered to PugHearts when her owners were quick to realize they weren’t quite ready for a new puppy.

Avery has some tummy issues we are working on and still has some puppy worms which will all resolve with the current meds she’s taking. Avery is not yet potty trained, but uses the puppy pads and will follow the others outside when they go…so I’m sure she’ll get it down in no time! She loves to play, she loves to nap, and she loves to be held…but most of all, she loves exploring her new little world! Avery still needs all of her vaccines and will need to be spayed before adoption but for now PugHearts will make sure she has everything she needs until she finds her forever family.

Welcome to PugHearts, sweet Avery…we are so glad you are here!

BanditPH ID: #7163
Please give a warm welcome to Foster Bandit. He went in for his in-take exam and his report card was stellar. He’s 18 months old, weighs 17 pounds and is heartworm negative. He's is great health and his coat is so shiny and black. The only hit he took from the vet was he has an ‘extensive underbite’. Well, duh???? That’s one of the cutest things going with him, other than he’s a black pug. He’s very playful and loves toys. He also has his tender, loving side that gives cuddles. He’s not neutered but his potty habits are pretty good.

He will be ready to find his new family in very short order. This little guy was very well named, he’s going to steal someone’s heart …. will it be yours? Don’t let this little guy slip past you.

BarnettPH ID: #7017
Although Barnett is a handsome man, he has not been well cared for. He joined PugHearts with an ear infection, weak back legs, and heartworm positive.

Thankfully, he was immediately started on meds, and lots of love.

He is 8 years old, but still displays the attitude of a much younger dog. He likes toys, likes to play gently, and gets super excited to see his people. He get along great with other dogs and kids. He sleeps quietly in his crate and travels well in the car. He would probably do best in a home with few or no stairs due to his back legs which are a little wonky. He would also do well with rugs strategically placed to help him gain traction.

This sweet, happy boy is ready for his forever home after his neuter (6/22/22) and his heartworm treatment.

BeansPH ID: #5775
Beans is a 16 year old pug who loves 3 things: eating, sleeping, and eating again. He came to PugHearts a tad overweight at 26 pounds, but he has shed 2 pounds so far. He loves soft toys and is quite the character. Beans has had successful surgery to rid him of bladder stones, so he must stay on a restrictive diet to avoid a re-occurrence. He also has an old injury to his left eye and has no vision in it. Beans is a sedentary fellow who is happy with a low key lifestyle. He is happiest when he knows where you are and will especially follow you if you make your way into the kitchen....his favorite room. Beans sleeps in his own bed and is house trained. He gets along with other dogs and ignores the cat. Mr. Beans, as I refer to him, is a total sweetheart who is looking for a quiet home for his retirement years.

HOPICE

BenjaminPH ID: #7203
Benjamin is an 8-month-old fawn male. He is heart worm negative and will be ready to adopt after his neuter. He is kennel trained and working on his house training. Benjamin is a playful little guy who still wants to play after the others have settled in for a nap. He loves young children and people and other dogs. He is loving and just a bit rambunctious. Give this little fellow a home!

BillyPH ID: #7193
Please welcome Billy to PugHearts!

Billy made his way to PugHearts all the way from Edinburgh with his sister Binx after their mom way tragically killed by being hit by a car. On the morning they were suppose to make their way to Houston, their sibling passed away too. Billy and Binx were lethargic, with diarrhea so they went to our emergency clinic right away. There it was discovered they were riddled with hookworms and Coccidia as well as being horribly anemic. They received multiple transfusions as well as meds for their tummy, antibiotics and dewormer. After 3 days at the EC Billy and Binx got the all clear to go to their foster home.

Billy has smutty coloring with the most perfect black stripe down his back, and at 8 weeks old he was still just under 2 pounds. He is the absolute sweetest but is the loudest drinker! He is slowly putting on weight and is acting healthier by the day!

Once fully vaccinated and he has neuter, Billy will be ready for his forever home. Besides a little longer snout Billy looks extremely pug. His tail is starting to curl just perfectly! While we may not know if he’s 100% pug, we do know Billy is absolutely adorable and is going to be an itty bitty beautiful boy!

BosleyPH ID: #7130
Bosley is three years old and is house trained, knows how to sit and plays well with all dogs. He loves to cuddle, is curious about cats and loves to give kisses.

Bosley doesn’t meet a stranger, kennels well and sleeps in his kennel at night as well. He loves to sit and sun himself outside and go for walks.

He will be ready for adoption mid December 2022 after his heartworm treatment.

BrennerPH ID: #7224
Please welcome Brenner to PugHearts!

One of the newest little heart nose puppies! Brenner (about 6 months old) made his way to PugHearts and we are so glad he did. He’s having a blast and loving the doggy daycare here. He’s about 4 months old and so sweet!

BriannaPH ID: #7223
Welcome Foster Brianna. She weights 8 pounds and is 6-8 months. Brianna’s is always running around playing with toys or the other fosters. She does like to be on my lap but she doesn’t lay down, she wants to play and give lots of kisses.

She will be available after her spay, which hasn’t been scheduled at this time.

BrookePH ID: #7222
Welcome to amazing Foster Brooke.

She is the sweetest baby at 6 pounds and is 6-8 months.

She is a a great puppy loves to play. But the thing she likes most is to cuddle in my arms and nap. As with any puppy her house training will be a work in progress for some time to come.

Brooke will be available for adoption after her spay, which is not scheduled yet. Her main requirement is love and patience as she grows up.

BruePH ID: #6781
Brue is a 10 year old pug who came to PugHearts after spending 5 days in a shelter. She stayed in the loving, caring home of a volunteer in the New Orleans area awaiting transport to Houston.

Her transport was “Paws and Pilots” program. Brue and Ace (a Scottie who went to Scottie Rescue) arrived in ??Conroe on Sunday afternoon. A very special Thanks to all who made this happen.

Lil Miss Brue had her intake exam Monday . Honestly, it was better than I thought, but still not good.

The good thing:

Heartworm NEGATIVE

No parasites

No pneumonia

Does not appear to have been used for breeding

Now the not go good thing:

Collapsing trachea

Cataract right eye

Shrunken globe left eye?

Limited if any vision

Hair thinning across body with redness of skin Skin condition due to low grade allergies

Urinalysis: bladder infection with possible kidney involvement

Body condition 3/9. Which means she is thin

Her spine is bowed as if she were kept in a small kennel

Brue is eating well, and loves her fluff trough which makes it easy for her eat.

She is on medications to help with the conditions she has. PugHearts will continue to treat and monitor her progress.

BusterPH ID: #6422
Buster is a little old man pug/chihuahua mix. He’s 16ish, and was surrendered to a shelter. He’s on Rimadyl for arthritis, and is sadly heartworm positive. He’s housebroken, crate trained, or happy to sleep in a big bed too. He’s got a funny, quirky little personality and just wants a loving home to live out the rest of his days!

CalliePH ID: #6946
Introducing Callie.

This adorable chunk was surrendered to PugHearts thru zero fault of her own. As evidenced by her photos (even they don't represent her in person fluffiness), she more closely resembles a baby walrus than a pug. We want her around a long time, so we are helping her with that. This is a 9 yr old, small frame girl... who weighs... wait for it... 28 pounds.

• Yes. She's on a diet starting TODAY.

• Goal weight 18-19.

• Treating for the now familiar skin and ear issues.

• Pending thyroid panel, in case there is a metabolic component we can also treat.

But for tonight, Callie's had a sweet ride, full vet workup, ear meds, skin meds, a snack, a second sweet ride, therapy bath, and already found an affable friend. All of this the SAME DAY she was surrendered. That's how we roll.

Callie is already displaying some alpha tendencies, with toy and food guarding. She may ultimately do better with no or one other passive mate.

Keep watch on Facebook and Instagram as we learn more about Callie, and celebrate yet another transformation to health. There's a waistline in there somewhere.

CandyPH ID: #7217
Candy is a playful happy girl. Candy came to PugHearts in awful condition. At only 5 years old, she was suffering from two ulcers in her eyes, two horrible ear infections and she had sarcoptic mange. And unfortunately she is heartworm positive. She was underweight and extremely weak. Her skin was oozing and infected. Thanks to PugHearts she received top notch care and after a week in the hospital she was able to come home to her foster family. Her recovery has been nothing short of amazing. She will be available around February, but it is not too late to claim her as yours!

Carrie AnnPH ID: #7028
Welcome Carrie Ann to PugHearts!

She's staying temporarily with me until her foster parents can pick her up.

This is what I know about her so far.

1. 6 years old, 11 lbs.; she's small, super velcro and vocal.

2. Has hookworms and belly rash which are currently being treated.

3. HEARTWORM NEGATIVE!

4. She crates only for sleeping, has some separation anxiety when not able to reach her person.

5. Not currently house trained, but we're going to be working on that.

She need to be spayed.

She will need a family that is patient, understanding and very loving.

A Family that will continue to work with her once she's in her forever home.

ColibriPH ID: #7213
Welcome Colibri to PugHearts!

She is sooooo sweet and very cute! She is a spunky black pug.

Colibri (5 years old) was rescued from a backyard breeder, chained outside. She is learning how to be inside but loves to cuddle! She is pretty skinny but it won’t take long to put some weight on her, she is eating great!

Heartworm positive and recovering from her spay. Colibri will have to go through heartworm treatment prior to her adoption.

Cora BellePH ID: #5975
Hi everyone, I’m Cora Belle. I am around 6 years old or so. I'm a little lady. I am very cute, sweet and special. Yep, fell on my head and it causes me to tumble like a cheerleader, but I just get up and keep going. Hardwood and tile floors are hard for me and I look like I’m trying to learn to ice skate and fall a lot. Foster mom has rugs for me to walk to that help me. Don’t worry, it is just a little thing and meds aren’t needed except for the prevention ones. You should see me run the fence when I’m protecting the yard. I’m looking for a forever family that doesn’t mind a girl who stumbles. I love hugs and will be yours forever.

DannyPH ID: #7183
Foster Danny came to PugHearts as an own surrender through no fault of his own. He is 4 years old and such a petite little boy. He has a great temperament and gets along with other dogs big and small. Danny is very balanced and a good mix of chill pug and playful. He enjoys playing with other dogs and then loves to relax and chill out as well. Danny is just a fun pug to have around. He’s confident with himself and loves cuddle time with his humans. He sleeps well all night long and is trustworthy when his humans are away from home. Danny would do well with any family with kids or with another playful dog. He is doing well with potty training but still a work in progress. Danny is very healthy and will be ready to adopt around mid-November after he is neutered.

DarbyPH ID: #5993
This is bonded pair Darby and Drake. Originally they came into our rescue two years ago and were adopted. They were surrendered back to us recently thru no fault of their own. Volunteers flew to retrieve these babies to get them back to us!

Now they are two years older (10 and 11 yrs old) and Drake has medical issues (collapsing trachea and on meds for life and poop urgency, Darby is healthy).

Now the good stuff! They love their humans and follow us everywhere and will give you their love to the point they will trip you and break your hip from being under foot. They are house trained, but need to be taken out for their potty breaks on a regular basis. They are really cute! They eat everything, even their vegetables. Darby can be alpha at times but easily correctable and she loves chew toys, will collect them in her crate. Drake had the most endearing face, I call him Eeyore. There is a special family out there that may want this pair and that is my hope for them. Until that time, I will love on them, play with them, clean up after them, correct alpha behavior, bask in their adorableness and give them the very best home possible.

DarlingPH ID: #7174
Foster Darling is not your typical Puppy at 10 mos. old, she is learning to potty outside. Darling is HW Negative and follows the pack with my Seniors, and she fits in very well. She sleeps in the big bed right next me cuddled up and cuddles with the others from time to time. She will steal your heart with her big personality and such a small package! Darling will need a Spay, Nares and some Deciduous teeth extractions surgery before she can be yours!

DashPH ID: #7148
This is Dash- he is a very happy, chill 8 year old boy, very sweet & mellow. He is starting to come out of his shell a bit, and is now showing his playful side. He has not had an accident in the house, nor has he shown any interest in marking! Dash is an excellent houseguest who gets along dogs, people, and even cats!

DelbertPH ID: #7220
Delbert or “Oh Bert” as we call him. He is a 4yo black male and very healthy. Delbert is laid back and is great with other dogs. He is lovable, playful and happy go lucky.. He is a Velcro dog and will be with you at every step. His ultimate goal is to get a snuggle. He is not food aggressive at all but, will finish his plate. He has the crazy tongue that goes none stop, it’s so very cute! He's like that friend that’s up for anything, unless it’s too much energy. He is not to good in the crate; he’s an “in the bed with you” dog. He is not quite potty trained yet but making great progress. He likes “his” toys… especially his pink dragon but will share. Delbert is a special boy. He just wants to love and be loved. Belly rubs are a must…

DelilahPH ID: #6912
Meet PugHearts Delilah. She came to Pughearts after she was found laying in a ditch on side of a road and brought to a shelter. PugHearts was called to pick her up from the shelter. She is in poor condition.

At 13 years old, this poor girl is a mess:

1. Severe heartworms

2 Severe spinal issues (spondylosis and a few collapsed disk spaces)

3. Hip arthritis

4. A giant mammary mass. removed and found to me fibrosarcoma

5. Lots of possible mast cell tumors

6. A papilloma (wart) on her vulva

7. A firm mass on her rt carpus that might be a peripheral nerve sheath

tumor

8. Mineralized stuff in her kidneys that might be age related changes or

kidney stones

Sweet Delilah has a long road ahead of her.

If you can please donate to her medical care. She thanks you.

DonovanPH ID: #7121
Donovan came in to PugHearts with a horrific fungal infection that had attacked his entire body. While we were hoping for the best, the pictures were heartbreaking and made us worry that it was something we couldn’t heal or control.

Donovan was born in Mexico and was sold at a Flea Market in Laredo. A family from Katy was there visiting and saw the condition poor little Donny was in so they brought him back to help with treatment. When the treatment didn’t work they tried to find another home for him and that is how he managed to be in PugHearts care. Donovan is only 15 weeks old. After biopsies and several other tests were completed we finally knew what we were dealing with. By that time our treatment had already started working. He was quarantined in his foster home for a little more than a week while we waiting for his lesions to start healing. Now that he’s on the road to recovery and Donovan is allowed to play with others his personality is really coming out. He is 100% puppy. He’s learning boundaries and house manners from the other dogs that he didn’t learn from his own mom, more than likely taken away from her when he was far too young. He is Velcro and needs to know where you are at all times. He still has puppy habits that he’s working on. He loves playing, giving kisses and getting into mischief. He definitely needs a home that is patient with his puppy antics, and one that’s ready to be tripped by him multiple times a day.

Donovan has started the healing process and we expect him to make a full recovery. He will need to complete his puppy vaccines and his required surgeries prior to adoption.

Doodle BugPH ID: #7172
Doodlebug comes to us from the Rio Grande Valley. She had demodex mange. She is healthy otherwise. She is already being treated and her fur will quickly begin to fill in. She is heartworm negative.

She is super playful and loves everyone. She would probably be best in a home with a playmate. She will be ready after her spay mid November. She is 12 months old.

DuchessPH ID: #7221

Foster Duchess is an 8-month-old puppy that has come into PugHearts through no fault of her own. She seems to be part mountain goat and loves to be at the highest level in the room. That could be the back of the couch or being held in your arms so she can survey her domain!

She enjoys playing with toys and will happily chase a pug egg or ball around the house. She is also a huge fan of the buffalo horns in the house, and chews on them with gusto! Duchess will join in playing with the other pugs in the house, but her preference seems to be hanging out with her people more than with the dogs.

We’re still working on her potty training, but that’s to be expected with a puppy as young as she is. She generally wakes up with a dry crate each morning, so she’ll get there soon. Speaking of crates, this girl sleeps in hers like a champ each night and settles down once she’s been given her bedtime treat. She’s usually already awake in the morning when I get up to get her breakfast, but she’s not yelling at me to get her food ready like the resident Boxer. She loves her food (like most pugs), but she’s not grabby, and I was surprised to learn that she understood what sit meant when I asked one of the other dogs in the house to sit before being given his treat. Her little butt plopped right down, and she waited patiently for her treat!

Duchess has already had her spay and is ready to be adopted. Get those apps in for this little peanut. She’ll go quick!

EdgarPH ID: #6711
Edgar is an active 3-year-old Fawn Male. He is an owner surrender through no fault of his own. (His owner was not allowed to take him to the college dorm.) He came to PugHearts with an injury to his eye. Unfortunately, the eye had to be removed shortly after intake. He will need to be neutered along with other possible procedures to help his breathing but then can be adopted, around Labor Day!

Edgar is house trained and working on kennel training. He wants to play with his foster brother, but cannot play until his eye is healed. I think he will be a rough and tumble playmate for a doggie friend and/or human friend. Come meet this fellow at the PugHearts events and watch for updates on the Facebook Page.

EdwardPH ID: #7198
Foster Edward is honestly one of the best behaved 6 month old puppies that has ever come through my house. He loves to play and is still learning how to play and not be over exuberant, but he’s doing great at house training and he’s sleeping through the night in his kennel like a champ, quiet as a mouse. He’s a tiny little guy at no more than 14 of 15lbs. He’s an adorable little guy and he’s going to make some family very happy.

EliPH ID: #6884
Introducing foster Eli. He is 6 years old. Eli is a wonderful snuggle pug. He loves to be with his people. He loves to run in the backyard and follow you around. His most favorite thing is to sit in your lap or beside you.

When he first came to PugHearts, he was not too sure about getting to stay in the house, or what to do. It didn't take him long to become very comfortable being a spoiled boy. Eli also had trouble staying on his feet and would fall frequently, but now he doesn't fall at all, and runs and plays in the yard at potty and play time.

Eli has blossomed so much with the addition of Rimadyl once a day, it has made a remarkable difference. Eli also eats prescription SO food for bladder Crystals.

Eli has a completely collapsed disk at L1/L2 with marked spondylosis and presumed severe spinal compression. The spinal compression is causing the muscle atrophy and weakness in his rear legs. There is no pain.

He was kept outside and used for breeding before coming to PugHearts.

Eli sadly has heartworms. He will be ready for adoption once he has completed his heartworm treatment.

Will this sweet, wonderful boy be yours?

ElizabethPH ID: #7084
Foster Elizabeth is around 3 years old and is a ball of energy. This little beauty was a breeder dump. Came to us full of fleas, with halitosis, breathing hoarsely, and was very skinny.

She is good with other dogs and loves to cuddle with her humans. Elizabeth is working on her potty manners and taking meds but she is learning everyday. She will need to be spayed, have her nares fixed, and dental. Amazingly she is heartworm negative!

She's a little picky when it comes to food but she eats all of the kibble we give her and asks for more! I'm sure she will gain weight in no time!

ElliottPH ID: #7011
Meet Elliot! This handsome 1 year old spends his time playing away with our other dogs and half the time cuddling on the couch with you or snoozing away. He also loves to talk - when he is excited, he will woo-woo and bark.

He is great with kids and other dogs. If you have another playful dog, he might become their playmate (he is currently buddies with our 1 year old mastiff).

He is house trained (he uses a doggy door). Elliott is heartworm positive and will have to go through treatment prior to adoption.

EmmaPH ID: #7197
Meet Emma, this beautiful girl came in a week ago & I have been keeping her all to myself as she is pure joy of puggy love! She is the cutest gal, estimated to be 5 years old. In a few more weeks she will be spayed & ready to move in with for for her first family Thanksgiving.

She gets along with other dogs, loves to run & play. She figured out our dog door in 1 day & no potty accidents.

EmmilenePH ID: #6671
Emmilene traveled to Houston from the Rio Grande Valley. Her owner was taken to a hospital and we were told that he would not be returning. Through no fault of her own she found herself homeless. She was running loose in the neighborhood and was relying on neighbors to feed her. Emmilene is obese weighing in at over 25 lbs. She has been put on prescription kibble that will help with weight loss and is not being given people food. She came to us with ear infections, a bladder infection, dermatitis, URI and dental disease….a mess! All of this is being addressed, and she is on antibiotics and steroids. She more than likely has arthritis which is not being helped by being overweight. She is already feeling better and moving around more. At times she is incontinent and does not appear to be totally potty trained, but we are working on that. She is estimated to be 9 years old. She is very sweet and enjoys the occasional lap time along with belly rubs. Right now she sleeps a lot and prefers the floor to a dog bed. She sleeps crated at night and does not make a peep. Emmilene doesn’t pay attention to the resident dogs. I’ve yet to see her play with a toy. She isn’t asking for much. A home that will offer her love, affection, healthy food and a place to sleep is all she needs.

UPDATE:

There have been a lot of positive changes for Emmilene over the months. Her ear infections have cleared up. We flush her ears once a week. She has lost 6 lbs. and weighs a little over 19 lbs. She can breathe easier and gets around so much better. She actually asks to get in our laps now. At dinner time she barks for her food and sometimes runs around acting silly. She occasionally plays with stuffy toys. She is a much happier girl now. She never pees in the house but does poop a few nuggets that are easy to pick up. Hey, nobody’s perfect! Won’t you consider meeting this senior girl? She may just steal your heart.

ErniePH ID: #7226
Please welcome Foster Ernie. He is estimated to be about 3 yrs old and heartworm positive. Ernie was a stray that a good Samaritan picked up and called us. Ernie will have to go heartworm treatment, along with neuter, and nares surgery before being adopted. He is super skinny, but his attitude is pure calmness.

Ernie has no issues with other dogs and loves to play. I wouldn’t wait to meet this little guy!!

EttaPH ID: #7144
Everyone welcome Foster Etta!

She found her way to PugHearts through no fault of her own. She came with an ear infection and several hot spots on her skin from having too much yeast in her system. She’ll be on medication for the next couple of weeks, I’m looking forward to watching her progress!

Despite her itchy ears/spots, she is the ultimate sweetheart and loves to cuddle all day. She does well with humans and dogs. We will be working on her nightly crate training, but for the day/night I’ve had her.. zero accidents in the house!

Foster Etta. 10 years old and heartworm negative

FerbPH ID: #7151
Ferb made his way to PugHearts from San Antonio after being rescued with several other dogs living in a garage. Ferb is 11 weeks old with a light coloring and wispy, fluffy fur. He currently weighs just over 4 pounds and appears to be a healthy and happy puppy. We suspect they could be a mix because of their living conditions, but they very much look and act like pug puppies. Ferb isn’t scared of anything and like to make his voice heard. He gets along great with his foster siblings, loves toys and is working on house training. Prior to adoption Ferb will be neutered and have all the necessary vaccines and boosters.

FranklinPH ID: #7108
Franklin is just shy of 8 weeks old and was surrendered to PugHearts by a breeder who was concerned about the health of his eye. Franklin was surrendered with his brother Frederick. They were both very young and unsure at first but have slowly grown accustomed to their new life. Franklin developed a severe infection behind his eye and was scheduled for an enucleation almost immediately. He is most definitely the cutest winky ever. He loves being held and has the true pug personality at meal times. Franklin will be ready for his forever home after his neuter at 4 months old.

FrederickPH ID: #7107
Frederick is just shy of 8 weeks old and was surrendered to PugHearts with his brother Franklin. They were both very young and unsure at first but have slowly grown accustomed to their new life. Frederick is definitely the boss of the pair and he’s also the smallest. He loves toys, especially ones that are bigger than he is! Frederick will be ready for his forever home after his neuter at 4 months old.

GoboPH ID: #7192
Gobo is known as one of the “dumpster babies” also know as the “fraggles” tossed away like trash with his umbilical cord still attached. He is 6 weeks old now born 10/7/2022.

Gobo is not a pug but when a supporter reached out for help after she found him and his two siblings tossed away in a Cheetos bag, PugHearts took them in.

Gobo is the most feisty one out of his siblings and loves to play growl which is the cutest little sound. He loves to play and scarfs down his food like it is his last meal. He is a super sweet boy.

GordonPH ID: #7050
Gordon is a very sweet 7 year old boy. He loves cuddling with people, playing with his foster brothers big and small, and chewing on any bones he can find. Gordon is unfortunately heartworm positive so won’t be ready for adoption until Fall 2022, but he is definitely worth waiting for!

Gramps here, I’m 12 years old. I walk a little wonky, but I get around well. I can see and hear. I love to sit with you and snuggle.

I do well with other dogs and cats and with kids. FoMo says I am just a love pug. I am looking for my forever home. Will you be my forever family?

GraysonPH ID: #6397
I first found out about Grayson from a cryptic message at the end of October. All it said was that there is an extremely sick Frenchie in a shelter scheduled for euthanasia today that we were trying to pull him out and whether I would foster to which I said of course. It was exactly 3 days later when I got a call from the director of the rescue. Grayson made it to our vet and his evaluation was not good. He had a left sided failure caused by a genetic heart issue complicated by heartworms, a completely preventable condition, and he was given a week to live. I felt like I couldn’t breathe but I also knew this dog needed to come here.

I didn’t sleep that night. I felt like there had to be more I could do for this dog and then it hit me – Grayson is dying and he never got to experience anything! clearly, we will do a bucket list for him. We took him to the beach where he tried to chase the seagulls even though he could barely walk, to a ranch where he got kissed by a wild pony, on a convertible ride to get a puppachino, we cooked him steak, he met and peed on a giant tortoise, had a professional photoshoot and visited Bayou Bend Gardens. Before we knew it, a week turned into two, then three and before we knew it he had people overseas reaching out about his story. People were asking about heartworms and he was making a difference.

Just as we began hoping Grayson may celebrate New Year with us, an upper respiratory infection hit him with an incredible strength. For two weeks we fought as hard as we could for him hoping his appetite would pick back up knowing well this may be it. Grayson came to us beyond starved and he could barely pick up his tummy filled with fluid caused by his heart failure – if he ever got to the point where he couldn’t walk, we knew it would be unfair to keep it going. And then he finally had a good day, and one after that, he got excited about meal times and I felt like I could breathe again.

As of today, Grayson got to eat Turkey on Thanksgiving and Christmas both, he celebrated Mother's and Father's day, he has met endless friends and lived a life he should have had from the start. None of this changes the fact that his condition is terminal. When his symptoms become severe enough and he can no longer enjoy his life, we will be there to hold him as he crosses over. But it will not be today.

This is a story of a rescue taking in a dog that will never make it out. A dog that never stood a chance but a dog whose life has been turned around because the rescue stepped in. His story could have ended in that shelter but it did not.

Living with Grayson for the past 2 months has taught us more than I would have ever thought a dog could. Grayson was abused and he will pay the ultimate price yet he is not bitter at all, the opposite in fact. He loves people and wants to be loved on all day long. He has learned his new name within days and runs to us as fast as his body allows him to. Having him here has made us to cherish every single day because we are not promised tomorrow. He taught us to let go of our baggage and live in the now.

Your donations help not only dogs getting ready for adoptions but also dogs like Grayson, dogs that will live out the rest of their days in rescue. We thank you for your support.

HOPICE!

GuntherPH ID: #7099
Gunther is a 2 year old male pug. He is a very active and happy boy who loves people and dogs. He loves to give kisses and he’s a charmer with his brown eyes! Gunther is doing really well with my 2 senior pugs. He’s very friendly and playful with them and has shown no signs of aggression. He loves to play with toys in and out of the crate. Gunther must have already been house broken because this is not an issue in our home. Gunther knows that all his business is handled outside. He loves meal time and treats. This boy is on his road to recovery and we are happy being part of his journey.

Diagnosis at intake: Hookworms (treated), whipworms (treated), heartworms (treatment upcoming) and allergic dermatitis (treating now).

GypsyPH ID: #7181
Gypsy is 13 weeks old and came into PugHearts with her sister Lovie.

She came in with a melting ulcer in her eye which will be removed when she is old enough for a safe surgery. It does not cause her any pain nor does it slow her down.

She has a total opposite personality than her sister. She loves to give kisses and loves to cuddle once she has exhausted herself from play. Gypsy is a very active puppy and would do best in a home with other active young dogs that like to play. She is very velcro and will do amazing with kids.

HigginsPH ID: #7118
Higgins was rescued by a good Samaritan who found him roaming on a busy rural road. Unable to locate his family, they contacted PugHearts for help in getting him safely to our rescue. Higgins is 2 years old and a petite little boy weighing 13 lbs. He has a very sweet and loving personality and craves love from his humans. We believe he was neglected and didn’t have much human interaction in his short life. He’s learning boundaries, takes correction well, and has made major progress coexisting with other dogs. For now, however, we recommend he be adopted as an only dog. Higgins does great on a leash, loves his walks, is a great cuddler and loves to be near his humans. He does fine around small children but we always recommend supervision at first around toddlers. We are currently working on potty training and he is doing very well with that. Unfortunately, he is heart worm positive and will be going through treatment before he is ready to be adopted. Higgins will be available late November or early December. He will be spayed in September. Other than that, Higgins is a healthy, spunky dog.

HomerPH ID: #6797
Homer is a sweet, gentle older man that comes to PugHearts from the Rio Grande Valley. He is neutered and has obviously been in a home before.

Sadly, he has a large mast cell tumor on his back. We know it will need to be surgically removed.

Homer is now hospice due to metastatic mast cell cancer in his abdomen.

HoneyPH ID: #6840
Foster Honey is a sweet girl who loves to be by your side at all times. She is a tiny girl that came to PugHearts weighing only 10 pounds. After a few weeks with PugHearts, she has topped 12 lbs. Honey gets along well with cats and other dogs. She loves walks and does well on a leash.

Honey will be spayed soon and will then be ready for her furever home. Her approximate age is 11 but she has a lot of energy and little gray hair. She does very well with small children and loves to snuggle.

HulkPH ID: #7180
Please welcome Foster Hulk to PugHearts. This big mixed boy came to us as an owner surrender and, so far, has gotten along well with kiddos and resident bulldogs. He’s a tall boy, a touch taller than the resident bullies, but needs to fill out and grow into his paws.

Hulk is around 9 months old, which means immediate enrollment in manners boot camp - those long legs and ups get him into more trouble than our usual pups. So far, he’s a quick study and fast learner, and really wants to please his people. He’s a bit on the submissive and shy side, so he will take some time to settle in to a new home, but he’s very sweet.

His neuter is scheduled for 11/9, and that seems to be his only medical issue at present so get those apps in for this “Hulka-Hulka-burning-pug(ish)!”

Ida JanePH ID: #7212
Please welcome the sweet and spicy Ida Jane to PugHearts!

Ida Jane was a stray and after the appropriate stray hold by the state, she was surrendered to PugHearts and is on her way to the life she deserves! Ida Jane is 14 weeks old and came to us covered in fleas and flea bites along with flea dermatitis and tapeworms. She is on prevention now and got her vaccines along with her microchip so she’s PugHearts official. Ida Jane was named after my great great grandmother who was one tough lady and for this baby to be on the streets as young as she is, she has to be tough too.

Ida Jane takes the term hot mess to a whole new level. By her looks I know she’s destined to be bossy and rule whatever house she’s in. She has no fear and plays until she tells the others it’s time to quit. Ida Jane will be spayed at 6 months old, and will be fully vaccinated when it’s time to go to her forever home. Beware! This baby will steal your heart and all of your toys!

JamesPH ID: #7167
Foster James is an amazing 12 month old pug. I was expecting to have a maniac when I took him but contrary to what I thought he would be, I was wrong. James is an exceptional young pug, besides being so handsome. He does like to play and run around. He's fond of all kinds of toys but one of his favorite pastimes it to lay in my arms like a baby and have his belly rubbed. He really has my number, I love him!

He came in with a pretty bad eye and he had to sit for three prescription eye drops twice daily. I had to wait 15 minutes between drops and he would just lay in my arms the whole time, relaxed. I know they made his eye burn but he was a real champ. And that paid off, his eye was given a clean bill of health this week.

James is now officially interviewing candidates for his forever home. I believe he would be a good family dog. He's not jumpy or bitey and I think he would be good for all ages of children, though they may need to share their stuffed toys with him. He is young so he will be a good choice to bring into your family for many years to come. Get those apps in, this guy is super special!

KeanuPH ID: #7137
Welcome Foster Keanu to PugHearts. He's an extremely handsome young pug at 3 years. He has a beautiful black, shiny coat and has the best tongue for Tongue Out Tuesday around. As you can see from his picture he has a very intelligent, direct stare. Keanu hasn't been a house pet (he was found in the streets) so he's learning some manners. He will be neutered in the next few weeks (Oct 11 to be exact and I'm counting down the days) so his manners should begin to improve after that. He's HW+ so he will be with me until late in the year so he will have ample time to learn to behave. I've had him a little more than a week and he already knows what "Stop" means so I know if he can just learn to control his inner pug puppy he will be well behaved in no time.

The greatest thing about NuNu is how he woo-woo's. He does it whenever he's excited, which is quite a bit. He jumps up beside me on the couch and leans in to my side as close as he can to take naps. He is super sweet and loves to be pet and cared for. He will be a fantastic choice for a family that has younger children who have some of the same energy he does. Even though he has HW, don't wait too long check him out, I'm sure he will be very popular when he's healthy and ready to be adopted.

LeoPH ID: #7071
Foster Leo is 4 years old, devoted with all his existence to being with his people and never more than 3 inches away. He is completely potty trained and never had a single accident in my home. He does sleep in the kennel currently if that is your preference but based on his couch cuddles, I think he would make an excellent bed sleeper also.

Leo loves other dogs, kids, toys, treats, knows how to sit, has no toy or food aggression and even though he finishes his meals first, he never bothers the other 5 in the room with him who are a lot slower eaters.

He does have separation anxiety so having a home where he is not left alone for long periods of time is a must but that and eye drops are the only accommodations this otherwise perfect stud muffin needs. He will be ready at the end of August after his nares surgery and dental cleaning.

LettiePH ID: #7036
Please welcome Lettie to the rescue. She was surrendered to us due to no fault of her own at just 9 months of age.

She has a short curly tail and the most opinionated underbite. Being quite tall and athletic, we think she may be a boston terrier pug mix.

She is very shy with us right not but lit up when the dogs tried to play with her so I think she would be a lovely companion for another active dog. She needs to be spayed and is otherwise perfectly healthy, call dibs fast!

LilaPH ID: #5183
Lila is a 4 yr old female that comes to PugHearts after being found wandering all alone.

She appears to have some problems with her back legs and is being monitored by the vet. Lila is, happily, heartworm negative.

From Lila's foster: Meet Lila - our gorgeous Lila!! She is a very happy, healthy 4yr old that loves to play and cuddle and run - everywhere she goes!!

Lila is a special needs pug that has some neurological issues with her back legs. We are not sure if this is due to an injury or birth - be please do not let this deter you from adopting her!! She does not let this slow her down one bit!! The biggest issue is elimations, as she is not always aware of pooping. Lila does squat to urinate, but then hops about 3ft while going. If she is leashed and you hold her, she will finish then move on. She will also stand up when asked!

This sweet girl is a treasure and we are hoping that someone will give her a chance at a family - she deserves her own family and loves with her whole heart!!

LindyPH ID: #7159
Foster Lindy is a super sweet little bit of a girl. She's an owner surrender through no fault of her own, 3 years old and beautiful. Her little face looks up at me with those soulful eyes and I'm done for. She is exceptionally quiet and I hope that the more comfortable she gets with her new surroundings she will become more outgoing. She LOVES to be close to me but needs to be invited. lf the other dogs are around she won't push in and I have to go get her. She is definitely not an alpha female.

Lindy Lou craves attention and loving. She is well behaved. I haven't heard her bark she goes to her crate without encouragement and so far she's been pretty good in the house. I'm totally under her spell. She has HW so she will not be available to adopt for several months. Keep her on your radar, this girl is a keeper!

LinusPH ID: #7186
Linus is a smaller intact fawn male who is heartworm negative and about 18 months old. He is a very sweet dog who LOVES people and loves to cuddle. He needs his neuter and will be ready for his furever home mid November.

Little Foot PH ID: #7162
Little Foot is about 18 months old. He is a feisty fawn male, heartworm negative, boy. He came to PugHearts with a limp leg (front right). I was to look after him about a week and a half before he had a recheck. We did not make it that far, after the first week, he showed me that he could not feel the foot, by doing damage that that paw. It was decided it needed to be removed. He pulled through beautifully. He has not slowed down one little bit. He is now a happy 3 legged dog. Just needs his furever home.

LoboPH ID: #7166
My name is Lobo, and I am the goodest sweetest boy. My foster mom says my eyes are very expressive, and I’m so cute it’s hard to believe that I’m real! I am three years old and a quick learner. I came to my foster mom very timid, not knowing what toys were, not potty trained, and not kennel trained. In the week that I’ve been in her home, I learned all of those things! I have even started playing with my foster tug of war with my sister, Charlotte! One important thing to note is that I have not shown any signs of aggression. I don’t bark at other dogs or at people passing by. In fact, I LOVE people and companionship. I love cuddles, will follow you around the home faithfully, and will always come when called. I am NOT on the rowdy side - I am mellow and calm-tempered. A true lover and not a fighter. I will be good with any family - kids or no kids. Looking for my forever family, and my foster mom says whoever adopts me will be truly lucky. Are you my human?

LotusPH ID: #7106
Lotus is a great 6 year old girl. I’m still learning about what she likes. Typical pug she loves to eat, be held, give kisses and steal my pillow at night. Sadly it became apparent quickly that her ‘good’ eye has extremely limited vision. But in typical pug fashion, that doesn’t bother her in the least. She keeps up very well with the pack. She squeaks when she whines and she also has a very unique bark. She’s pretty awesome. She will be with me for awhile, but once she kicks the heartworm's butt, she’ll be a great companion.

LoviePH ID: #7182
Lovie is 13 weeks old and came into PugHearts with her sister Gypsy.

She came in with a melting ulcer in her eye which will be removed when she is old enough for a safe surgery. It does not cause her any pain nor does it slow her down.

Lovie is a very active feisty girl that will need to learn some boundaries as she likes to nibble on you. She is a very active puppy and would do best in a home with other active young dogs that like to play. She is very velcro and demands attention.

LuckyPH ID: #6967
Get your application in for this sweet two year old boy!

Foster Lucky loves to play and….lick! Your feet and arms are not safe and neither are the ears of other dogs in your home.

He is working on potty training and some

House manners, sleeps well in a kennel, loves toys and never met food he didn’t like. He gets along great with kids and multiple dogs. He does love to cuddle when he runs out of energy.

Lucky is heartworm positive so he will be with us for a few months.

You don’t have to wait until he is through heartworm treatment to fall in love with him and put in your application. Lucky would love to know that he has a family waiting for him.

LudoPH ID: #7206
Please welcome Ludo to PugHearts!

Ludo made his way to PugHearts as an owner surrender when his family no longer had the time for him. Ludo is 2 years old with the energy of a puppy. He loves playing with toys and playing tug o war with his foster siblings. His favorite thing when he’s not playing is cuddling with his foster mommy. Ludo sleeps in the big bed every night and loves it! Ludo is working on house training and currently wears a belly band when he freely roams, but keeps his crate clean. He is the most muscular pug I’ve ever seen and he has the most beautiful cream colored coat that we don’t see very often. His black mask is pure perfection and those perky ears make for a look that’s full of personality.

Ludo is healthy and just awaiting his neuter and required breathing surgeries. Once that’s all completed he is going to make a lucky family very very happy!

LukePH ID: #7178
Luke comes to PugHearts as an owner surrender through no fault of his own. You can tell he was very much loved, but unfortunately, the allergies won this round. Luke is 1 ½ years old, but he’s pretty calm for his age. He loves toys, but he also enjoys relaxing on the couch, and he absolutely adores my husband! He snuggles next to him on the couch, and on his work from home days, he stays in his office with him.

Luke is still working on his potty training, but I think that will improve once he’s neutered at the end of October. He sleeps great in his crate at night (not a peep out of him), he gets along with my crew (even my resident alpha) , and he’s a cuddler. This boy is your typical pug shadow and will happily follow you from room to room. If my husband isn’t home, Luke is stationed under my office chair or hanging out in the bedroom chewing on a hoof while I’m cleaning or exercising. He really is the perfect boy!

Luke will be ready for his new home at the end of October, and he would love to be with his new family just in time for the Holidays!

MadisonPH ID: #7211
Please welcome 4 year old Madison to PugHearts. She comes to us with a nasty skin infection, but the skin scrape was negative, so no mange. Other than the crusty skin and two nasty ear infections she is in good health. She is hw-.’

She is on 3 different antibiotics to help treat the infection and hopefully she will feel some relief. Crazy part is this girl has got the most beautiful thick black coat. As of now she is happy and getting along with everyone here. Can’t wait to see her blossom.

MaevePH ID: #7196
Please welcome Maeve to PugHearts!

Maeve is a 3 year old French Bulldog that found her way to a shelter in Corpus Christie who then called PugHearts for help. Maeve is a compact little girl weighing only 16 pounds. This poor baby was covered in both fleas and flea bites with missing hair and scabs from scratching so much. Like most French bulldogs, Maeve is a bull in a China shop, knocking over any and everyone that gets in her way. She’s working so hard on boundaries, like bounding up on the coffee table is frowned upon, but she has near perfect house manners. She loves cuddling up next to her foster mommy every night in the big bed. Mauve loves other dogs and will play hard with her foster siblings, but sometimes she gets annoyed that things aren’t going her way, and that is a work in progress!

Mauve will be spayed, any breathing surgeries and have her boosters prior to adoption.

Marcus was surrendered to PugHearts due to family changes and they were so sad but did what was best for him. He’s just a baby, not yet a year old and was understandably very nervous. He finds comfort in the company of other dogs and absolutely adores his foster siblings. He plays the “mouth-bitey-face” game constantly and loves squeaky toys. He has slowly grown more comfortable here but has an aversion to stepping across the threshold to come in from outside. He has been a perfect gentleman at house training but he is intact, so he’s worn a belly band for the past few days. Marcus is a healthy boy with the absolute best pug face. His coat is shiny and his cream coloring is beautiful. Marcus is great in a crate and overall very quiet in the house. His perfect home would include another doggy playmate to help him be comfortable and relaxed. He is super healthy and will be ready for his forever home following his neuter and boosters.

He won’t last long! Get your application finished now!

MaudePH ID: #7210
Allow me to introduce Maude.

Yet another local shelter dump, we don't know what happened to her obvious recent babies (*spay already scheduled!). We don't know why she was left, sick and filthy. We don't know lots of things about lots of our dogs...

But what I do know about Maude, after just a couple hours here: Maude loves to snooze in the car, make pigeon noises, is doing well with outside potties, and adores her new indoor foster life.

Maude is 8 years old, has been used as a breeder, has endured years of care that was less than, and has earned nothing but love the rest of her days. PugHearts exists to see she gets just that. Follow Maude's progress and sweet, soulful face on Facebook and Instagram as we get to know her better. Naturally, she is also heart worm positive, so has that hurdle as well. Look for her home ready February 2023.

MauricePH ID: #7134
Look at this sweet boy! Introducing foster Maurice. I’m getting to know him so stay tuned as he blossoms. Maurice is 10 yrs old, easygoing, very friendly and chill. I took him for a walk tonight and he absolutely loved it. We’re working on potty training and I have no doubt he’ll get the routine down pat in no time. He gets along great with my other dogs. Maurice is a no drama kind of dog and that suits me perfectly cause I’m a no drama kind of girl so I think we’re gonna have a great time together. He’s heartworm positive so PugHearts will get that treated and he’ll be good to go around December. You can apply online to meet him in the meantime.

Please allow me to briefly explain my first meeting with Foster Maurice. I get the text he’s ready to be picked up, I’m waiting in SLPH lobby, and out walks this calm pug with a bit of a swagger, chill and confidence about him. No drama, no jumping…just chill pug. We locked eyes and it was as if he was saying “Hey FOMO, let’s rock-n-roll!” I thought oh boy this is gonna be fun. First thing I thought is we gotta get this boy some shades to fit his personality. So here is …my ride or die! He’ll be ready in December. Would make an awesome family dog. Great with kids!

MauryPH ID: #6965
Maury made his way to PugHearts as an owner surrender in The Valley due to health concerns. Our volunteers there said he could barely take a few steps without having trouble breathing and coughing. Once in Houston Maury made his way to our vet in Sugar Land where a complete exam and X-rays were performed. The X-rays confirmed that Maury has a bad trachea. In fact, Maury has a collapse of the entire thoracic trachea and a complete collapse of the Main Stem Bronchi. Thankfully Maury is heartworm negative. We estimate Maury to be 10 years old, and quite overweight at 29 pounds, with only about 3 teeth left in his mouth. He is currently being considered as a Quality of Life Foster, while we try to medically manage his breathing and coughing with a cocktail of meds. Maury is currently on Hycodan, Gabapentin, Prednisone and Benadryl twice daily. So far Maury is doing great. He is happy. He can relax, and his coughing has lessened. While we know that we can’t cure Maury’s trachea problems, our goal is to make him comfortable and happy for whatever time he has left. In his foster home Maury has mad many friends. He loves running around the yard and playing with his foster siblings. He sleeps in the big bed every night and hardly coughs at all to wake anyone up. He is on a diet that consists of Low Fat canned food, and despite being a messy eater, Maury seems to enjoy his new diet. We are hopeful that losing a few pounds will help his breathing as well. It’s been a joy to see Maury smile and play, and I look forward to seeing even more important while we work on his health.

UPDATE!!!

Maury has lost 6 pounds! His coughing has almost completely stopped! Maury’s medication has decreased down to only 1 pill, once daily (hycodan) He takes Benadryl on occasion for his runny nose. Because Maury has about 3 teeth left, he eats 1/2 cup of dry dogs food twice daily that’s been softened with water. He is no longer a messy eater because he doesn’t have to worry about breathing and coughing while he eats. Maury’s surgery is scheduled for next week where he will be mustered, and his palate and nares will be evaluated.

Mokey is known as one of the “dumpster babies” also know as the “fraggles” tossed away like trash with her umbilical cord still attached. She is 6 weeks old now born 10/7/2022.

Mokey is not a pug but when a supporter reached out for help after she found her and her two brothers tossed away in a Cheetos bag, PugHearts took them in.

Mokey is fearless, so loving and has the cutest little scruffy face. She loves to play, and loves food. She gives the sweetest little kisses and loves to be cuddled.

Monica is a 10 year old female from a shelter in Laredo. She comes to PugHearts is very poor condition. She is heartworm negative, but that is the limit of the good news. She has terrible dental disease, severe dry eye with an infection in the eyes due to no treatment for that dry eye. She was attacked by another dog, as evidenced by multiple puncture wounds (many with infection draining from them). She has spondylosis made worse by the attack. She was so anemic on intake that she was not able to stand up on her own. Ticks covered her poor weak body so much so that we could not count them.

Don't worry Monica, you are a PugHearts baby now.

MoosePH ID: #7079
Please welcome Moose to PugHearts! This adorable 18 month old was being sold at a flea market when a Good Samaritan saw that he needed help. Moose had almost no fur on his body and had a collar embedded in his neck which had to be surgically removed. She took great care of him and contacted PugHearts once she helped him recover. Moose is a wonderful Pug. He is a little shy when first meeting new people, but has been great with all the dogs in my home and absolutely loves children. He is gentle, he is playful, and he’s as sweet as can be given how he started out! Moose has been through a lot in only 18 months but is starting to know what it’s like to feel safe and loved. Moose will be ready for his forever family once he’s had a full exam by our veterinary team, but he is going to make an excellent family member to whoever is lucky enough to adopt him! Welcome to PugHearts, sweet Moose…we are so glad you are here!

MurrayPH ID: #6694
Murray is a winky as he is missing his left eye. He has IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease). Murray also has a healed vertebral fracture, Spondylosis and hip dysplasia. That being said, Murray has no idea that he should experience limitations with his activity. He can and does do anything he wants. He is on Rimadyl for pain and will remain on it throughout his life. He is a sweet, loving cuddle bug.

Although Murray has his physical challenges they don’t stop him from doing anything he wants to. He has been neutered and had his nares and soft palate done and is good to go. He sleeps either on the couch or in a crate in the bedroom. He uses doggie stairs well. He loves treats and to play with toys. He can be food aggressive so I either crate him or put him in another room to eat. He is 90% potty trained. He is sweet and likes to be loved on.

OakleyPH ID: #7010
Introducing Foster Oakley! This sweet 2 year pug mix is the perfect balance of playful energy and snuggle time in your lap. His house manners are impeccable and he crates well. He will be ready to adopt after his neuter next month.

OksanaPH ID: #6911
Oksana made her way to PugHearts from a local shelter after bouncing around from several homes and obviously being neglected for quite some time. She was limping, exhausted and had several nails growing into her pads. Oksana is also battling a kidney infection as well as a skin infection. Thankfully she is heartworm negative. Oksana is no longer limping and has had quite a time chasing the puppies around the house. She appears to be house trained and loves sleeping in her favorite chair in her foster home. During her intake exam her eye pressure was tested and it was determined that she does have glaucoma. We are still discussing a treatment plan that will either include meds or a possible enucleation, but at this time she doesn’t appear to be in any pain at all. Oksana is already spayed, but will need to complete her boosters. She has done well with the other dogs here and is still finding her place in the pack. She loves feeling the sun on her face and barking at the dogs on the other side of the fence. Oksana was named after the most beautiful Ukrainian Ice Skater and Olympic Champion, Oksana Baiul. She has learned her name quickly and will answer to Oxy for short. We believe Oksana to be about 10 years old and she weighs 24 pounds. She is the sweetest thing ever and is oh so beautiful.

OpheliaPH ID: #5085
Ophelia comes to PugHearts from the Rio Grande valley.

She is a 4 year old fawn female. She is severe heartworm positive and will have to go through treatment prior to adoption.

From Ophelia's foster: Ophelia is a Velcro pug, very energetic and happy. She loves toys, Nyla bones and plush toys, but unfortunately she has mega esophagus which can be irritated by over enthusiastic play or stress. She loves tummy and chest rubs and she will let you know if you have not fulfilled her pet/scratch quota by pawing at your hand. She gives kisses and is very excited most of the time. Which has been alittle worrisome during her heart worm treatment. The mega esophagus is manageable with elevated food and rest 20-30 mins after feeding. Ophelia is a delightful little girl that adds a bright spot to everyday.

Medical hold and then pending adoption with his foster Mom.

OrsonPH ID: #7095
Orson made his way to PugHearts as an owner surrender after his family fell on hard times and could no longer afford his care. His birthday is February 21, 2021 making him 15 months old. He came to us pretty malnourished and with a ulcer that was beginning the healing process on its own. He’s only 12 pounds, and once filled out and and healthy I believe he won’t be over 15 pounds. He’s super tiny with the absolute cutest little face. Thankfully Orson is heartworm negative but will need surgery for his neuter and due to his loud, zombie like breathing, we’re expecting he will need his nares, palate and possibly saccules done as well.

Orson is a little love bug. He is a head sleeper meaning I wake up every morning looking like I stuck my finger in a light socket! He does well with other dogs and loves playing the mouth game with all his siblings. He’s learning house manners and boundaries and has done well with crate training. Orson is going to make any family super happy!

OscarPH ID: #6688
Oscar is a precious older gentleman that comes to PugHearts from a local shelter.

He, like most neglected older pugs, has a few medical issues.

He has some spinal issues and deals with a weak bad end. He retains urine and will need to be expressed several times a day to avoid continued bladder infections.

Oscar see well and will follow you room to room, as he wants to be near you. He is getting along well with the other pugs in the house.

Eating from an elevated food bowl is a little easier for him.

Don't overlook this sweet angel.

HOSPICE

PatrickPH ID: #7200
I want to introduce you to Patrick. He made his way to Houston from Harlingen this weekend. Patrick came to my house as a medical case. I will take any medical case I’m ask to, not just pelvic fractures or prolapses.

Patrick saw Dr. Hendrix today. He was aged at 2 years old, so really he’s still just a baby. He definitely still needs all the payers he can get.

Patrick is ehrlichia positive.

Patrick is anemic. He’s at 20%

Patrick has protein in his urine and a severe bladder infection.

Patrick has an enlarged liver and is jaundice.

Patrick has fluid in his abdomen.

Patrick has a heart murmur. It’s pretty significant too. I heard it.

He is in the hospital on lasix and enalapril. He will have an ultrasound tomorrow. When Dr. Hendrix tells me that our best case scenario is Congestive Heart Failure…well, it’s tough. He’s the sweetest little boy and loved cuddles in the big bed.

These cases are never easy but we will do whatever we can to make Patrick happy and feel loved. Despite everything, Patrick is a sweetheart. He’s gobbled up his food and treats and slept soundly in the big bed all night last night.

Patrick was found as a stray. This poor boy was all alone.

Patrick will make his way to see Dr. Hendrix tomorrow. He’s already seen pictures and videos and the records from the Harlingen clinic. Patrick can use lots of prayers and good vibes.

Stay tuned for updates and hope for good news. Patrick deserves a chance to live a spoiled life.

While Patrick hasn’t had his intake yet, I’m guessing he’s young. The lack of graying on his face is typically a sure sign.

PhantomPH ID: #7201
Foster Phantom is a 3 year old super amazing pug. Not only is he drop dead gorgeous he is also the sweetest little guy that anyone could want. He was an owner surrender and he is really well behaved as far as a young pug can be. He's very active but loves to cuddle also.

He will be neutered soon and that should take care of any marking. He doesn't pee in his belly band so that's a good sign it's just a matter of getting him neutered. He loves to sleep in the big bed with me. He follows me everywhere I go and if he loses track of me I can hear him softly crying where he thinks I may be.

Phantom is very healthy and as soon as he is relieved of the Family Jewels he will be ready for adoption. Don't delay putting those apps in if you are interested, I'm positive he will be very popular.

PipPH ID: #7199
Pip came to us as an owner surrender. He is two years old and is itty bitty at only 12 pounds! Pip has the cutest little face with the most perfect under bite. He was a little wild when he first made his way to his foster home. He wasn’t sure to be excited or scared, but slowly he’s grown comfortable in his new surroundings. He loves his foster siblings and enjoys chewing nylabones and squeaky stuffies. Pip has done great with the other dogs here and is learning how fun it is to sleep in the big bed every night. He’s started giving me kisses when I ask and melts into my arms when I hold him. Pip is still working on his house manners and will wear his belly band willingly. Mostly it’s just marking here and there which should subside once he is neutered. Pip will be ready for adoption once he has his breathing surgeries, big boy surgery and all his remaining boosters. He is such a sweet boy and will make a lucky family very happy!

PresleyPH ID: #7119
Today I got to complete another heartbreaking transport from BARC. Meet foster Presley. We suspect she was hit by a car sustaining multiple fractures. Frustratingly, the accident happened on the 19th and she remained in excruciating pain until today when she was finally surrendered to the shelter. I struggle to comprehend how anyone watched this for such a long time.

When she was brought out to the car, it was a challenge to get her into the kennel and despite everyone’s best effort her leg got caught in the process. She let out the most awful shriek and kept screaming and throwing herself around until we managed to adjust her. It was still echoing in the carport when the relief hit me. This response was appropriate to the severity of her injury, she has feeling, we can fix this.

Upon intake we found out she is heartworm positive to the point of being anemic - this is why her tongue looks so pale in the photo. Her femur is broken almost all the way to her knee and she has a broken hip also. We do not believe her pelvis is broken but all imaging has to be redone tomorrow when she is more stable, she was in too much pain to get great images but we needed to see roughly what her condition was.

Despite the extreme swelling that you can see in the picture and the fact that that this has gone untreated for days, we believe the leg can be saved. More updates to come

PumpkinPH ID: #7216
Pumpkin is a 4 year old pug mix (Boxer/Pug, we think) that just wants to play and play and play.

She is 28 pounds and a little larger than a pug, with the strength to match.

She is a sweet gentle soul that has no idea she is bigger than her playmates.

Pumpkin is heartworm negative and already spayed.

If you have fur babies looking for a strong playmate and a great cuddler, Pumpkin is your girl.

Meet Rainey! This adorable petite little gal is only 18 months old, but sadly has had a rough start at life already. She is heartworm positive, and severely underweight. She will undergo treatment within the next few months. Rainy is only about 11 lbs now, but should probably weigh closer to 14-15 lbs. Despite her health challenges, she is the sweetest, happiest little girl. Her whole body wiggles when she’s happy. Her eyes are big and soulful and she is an expert cuddler, with people & other dogs. She is doing great with potty training, and does well in a crate. She Is a true little gem, who will make a great addition to any family!

RosePH ID: #7101
Rose is a sweet little lady who just wants love and reassurance. She enjoys playing with toys and is on the road to learning how to live the diva life she deserves. Rose enjoys sleeping in the bed with her people and will sleep all night long. Rose craves being held and loved on, and she is a velcro pug who will follow her people everywhere.

Rose is about 5 years old and is currently around 14 pounds. She needs to put on a couple of pounds, though, as she is ‘skin and bones.’ She is one of 6 from a breeder situation. They had been dumped at a shelter and were soon to be euthanized. Rose is Heartworm negative. She has a luxating patella which is being monitored. She is not on any meds. She was very scared and confused, but with love and patience, she is slowly coming out of her shell. She rides quietly in a crate. She will take a little while to master being fully potty trained, but she is learning and doing great so far.

Rosie 7PH ID: #5872
A quote from Foster Rosie : I may be old and I may be Grey but my love is the same. My steps may be slower, I might not hear you as well but my love is the same. I may not see you or feel you as I did, but my love is the same. My devotion is the same , My heart and soul is the same. I am grateful for all that you and have done and do and just remember my Love is the still the same ??. Love , Foster Rosie

SallyPH ID: #7175
Sally is about 2 years old, full of energy, loves to run & play. she also loves to be with her people, follow you everywhere. Sally came to us full of tick bites but over the last several weeks all the scabs have fallen off, her coat has filled in and now her fur is super soft when you pet her. She is spayed & will go back in soon for a mastectomy as we found a few small masses. In no time at all, she will be ready for her forever home.

SchnitzelPH ID: #6928
Everybody meet PH Schnitzel! He’s one of the newest members of the PugHearts family! Hailing from the town of Fredericksburg, this 9 month old little guy found himself left at a shelter, but now he’s on his way to the good life! He’s a bit timid of all of our dogs (let’s face it, 8 other dogs in your face can be a bit overwhelming), but he’s settling in, and running full out zoomies in the yard. I think he’s gonna be just fine.

SebastianPH ID: #7176
foster ??????????????????: Optimistic, ??????????????????????, ??????????????????, ????????????????.

Sebastian is the complete package. The vet puts him at 6 years old, but he acts much younger. He is house broke, loves people, gets along with other dogs, loves toys, and adores his family. He will thrive as an only dog or with others, but he is not a playmate - his full attention is focused on his humans. It takes him a while to trust, but once he does you will have his whole heart. Please note when Sebastian came to us, he had bladder stones - he will have to eat Royal Canin Urinary food going forward. Sebastian is ready to be adopted just in time for Thanksgiving!

SerenityPH ID: #7179
Please welcome Foster Serenity!

We sprung her today from Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists (SLVS), where she has been recovering from parvo. This little fighter beat the odds and survived parvo, but still has a ways to go in her healing journey.

We don’t know too much about her yet, except that she’s 6 months old, she’s the cutest little peanut ever (weighing just 8.72lbs!), and she’s a master level snuggler. Everyone at SLVS fell in love with her while she was there.

ShelbyPH ID: #6996
Shelby was picked up by a shelter in Corpus Christie after witnesses saw her be hit by a car. PugHearts was called and a Good Samaritan graciously brought her from Corpus to our Vet in Sugar Land. When she arrived Shelby was in worse condition than we thought. She was on high doses of pain medicines and it was unclear if Shelby had any feeling in the bottom half of it body or if she had any control of her eliminations.

Once medications were decreased we were able to see that Shelby did have control and felling, so we knew we had the chance to help her. X-rays revealed multiple pubis fractures, left acetabulum and bilateral SI fractures with displacement of the right side. The first surgery was in an attempt to plate her pubis fractures, but unfortunately because of the state it was in, the plate slipped. It was determined at that time that Shelby would heal on her own on that side, so we set out a plan to fix the more damaged side where the dislocation was prominent. Shelby had an FHO on the right side and made her way to her foster home a few days later. She started on strict crate rest to help with healing. After a few days in her foster home, it was obvious that Shelby was in fact painful but she was also extremely strong in her upper body. Shelby could do a handstand walk across the yard with no issues, which made rehab a bit of a challenge, but was quite impressive to her former gymnast foster mom!

After a few weeks Shelby had been working on both movement and stability in her at home rehab. She loves running across the yard but does more of a bunny hop when she runs. She balances herself on all four legs and postures to use the bathroom with no issues. She refuses to soil her crate area and will wait for me to let her in the yard. Rehab and PT are going great and Shelby is making improvements every single day.

Shelby’s personality has come out completely. At 12 months old she is all puppy. She loves her toys and nylabones. Shelby is a true diva and absolute drama queen. She demands belly rubs and whines when she’s playing with toys. She talks to me and tells me just how she feels too. Shelby will need her weight monitored and joint supplements for life, but with proper care she can live a normal and happy pug life. It’s possible that she will develop arthritis once she’s older, but let’s face it, that’s what happens as we all age. Shelby is just another I’m the king list of PugHearts miracles and is waiting for her happy ending that she so deserves!

StacyPH ID: #6990
Stacy is a delightful, petite, 4 year old, fawn, 15 pounder from a Rio Grande Valley shelter, who could not be more grateful to have made her way to PugHearts. She's currently lounging in the air conditioning, after a lovely bath and hearty dinner.

Stacy came to us with a raspy cough which we're treating, and existing blindness, which obviously is permanent. Do not fret. Stacy isn't. As a mom and foster of many blinds myself, I assure you, they are equally happy (perhaps more so) than any sighted dogs. They navigate new surroundings well after an impressively short time, relying on smell and touch, and ideally, at least one other dog in the home to cue off. She *might* know "sit", gives the sweetest kisses, sleeps crated or with you soundly, and seems agreeable to all pack pugs so far. Head tilts for DAYS. She's also pretty quiet mostly, but barks 'big like Rottweiler', so add watch dog to resume haha. No interest in toys yet, but I expect that to change in short order.

Stacy will be spayed soon, giving her an estimated ready date mid-July 2022. Meantime, follow her cheery, wonky teeth, eyes, and tales on Facebook and Instagram.

StephaniePH ID: #7161
?Stephanie 4 is a 2 year old pug mix. Her foster family calls her “Bambi” due to her deer like resemblance. She is quite an active little girl, all legs and very much a runner. She is a “Piggy” mix; Pug (P) mixed with miniature Italian Greyhound (IG).

Stephanie has settled well into our very active household, and gets along great with our (5) dogs and (2) cats. She needs to be around other dogs close to her age due to her love of playing all day long, she is chock full of energy. She can be demanding of our attention from time to time, and we are working on manners, as well as potty training. She is, for the most part, pad trained but does have accidents and at times refuses to potty outside. Mostly due to her zeal for socializing (barking) with neighborhood dogs instead of taking care of her business

StuartPH ID: #7035
Stuart is a 2 year old, sweet young boy with lots of energy but also lots of desire to snuggle. Kisses, play and Netflix-and-chill are his favorite things. He’s great with other dogs (big and small) and loves, loves, loves kids, even touchy, grabby toddlers! Stuart had to learn potty manners when he came to us but he proved to be a quick study. This boy is beautiful, sweet and well mannered and would make a great addition to any home.

SullyPH ID: #7142
Sully is a stunning, solid black, 4 year old male owner surrender from the Dallas area.

He is still brand new to us, but every sign points to nothing but greatness. He had a wonderful, peaceful, first foster night's sleep, after his introductory grooming *not so thrilling*, and ate a full meal, both rarities for newbies and first nighters.

Sully is quite timid yet, and we're not sure why, but he continues to grow trust. Rare also is the pug that I have to lure OUT of a crate… But he is learning safety and confidence with each passing hour, and that nothing but love and care he will find here, until he finds you.

Sully is calm and sweet and gets along with all the other pugs here; every age, shape, and disability. He awaits his neuter, and sadly, also heartworm treatment. Sully will also need dry eye drops for life, and some redirection with house training. He is an emphatic marker right now, which often improves with neutering, but I recommend discipline, crate training (he absolutely loves the solace of his own little space), and guidance for any new home addition, no matter their backstory.

Watch Sully's personality bloom with me meantime on Facebook and Instagram, and look for him to be home ready the end of the year, or early next year, MAYBE even by Christmas!! Odds are good he will grace the pug pen as well at POTB 10/22/22, unless he is pending adoption by then.

SusiePH ID: #7225
Susie, the newest brindle beauty has settled in nicely. She loves toys and playing with all of her foster siblings. Susie is working on house training and is learning to use a puddle pad too. She cries when she can’t find me and loves being held and cuddled. Susie will be ready as soon as her spay surgery is complete.

TankPH ID: #7165
Tank (adoption pending) initially came into PugHearts when he was surrendered twice to a rescue in Louisiana due to his previous adopters not being experienced owners.

Tank is a playful and active Frug Mix! You can often find him hanging out on his dog bed with a good nylabone chew, sitting in the most peculiar places, snuggling with his people or, in true Frug fashion, searching for a soft place to take a nap (as long as it's near his people). Tank does well when walking on a leash and looks ahead making sure no uncertainties lie ahead. He can get uneasy/anxious and very nervous when in an unfamiliar situations and will seek reassurance and guidance from his leader. Tank looks to his human for comfort (and correction, if needed) when his insecurities get the best of

TessaPH ID: #6132
MEDICAL HOLD

Tessa came to PugHearts from San Antonio back in November as a 7 week old puppy with a prolapsed rectum. A prolapse will typically occur in puppies that haven’t been properly dewormed, causing severe diarrhea. A purse string was put in by the vet in San Antonio prior to her transport to Houston.

What is a purse string? Think of it as a drawstring in her rectum to hold her insides in, similar to holding the contents of a bag in place. This is so important because the longer that the bowls are out, the more necrotic the tissue becomes.

The purse string stayed in for 2 weeks and less than 48 hours after it was out, Tessa prolapsed again. She was rushed back to our vet to have an additional purse string. This is when we assumed the problem was bigger than we thought and it was discovered that Tessa has no muscle tone in her rectum. This purse string stayed in for 3 weeks, and this time she prolapsed less than 24 hours from removal. I became quite versed in pushing her colon back inside her body every time she prolapsed, until her emergency surgery was performed the following day.

Dr. Hendrix performed a Coloplexy on Tessa, essentially pulling and tacking the colon to the abdominal wall and leaving no room for an additional prolapse to occur.

Since this surgery, we have been finding out all the additional problems Tessa has, and assume she born with this defect. She has a total collapse of the 7th vertebrae leading into her pelvis causing nerve damage to the colon, which also gives her a funny gait and a spastic neurogenic colon. She has the urge to poop all the time, and will posture constantly with some, little or nothing coming out. It ends up on her, the other dogs, me and the wall on occasion. She has to have her anal glands manually expressed on a weekly basis because her body can’t do it. She will never be able to jump on and off the furniture or use stairs. There’s mornings that I want to scream and cry while I’m scrubbing poop, but then I see her and everything is worth it.

We’ve treated her with prednisone and metronidazole to no avail, and we currently have her on Tylan which has helped the consistency be more formed. She is on a strict diet of GI high energy wet food and Biome

If Tessa hadn’t found her way to PugHearts, she would not be here. There is no information on treating this condition because most dogs would have died or been euthanized. PugHearts is fighting for Tessa and we are doing everything that we can to help her. It’s not cheap, Her dog food is almost $80 a bag, but this little baby deserves the best. SLPH accepts manufacturers coupons for the Hill’s Science Diet food, if you’d like to donate those at the clinic. I had $15 worth today!

Today Tessa had her last booster. At this point, most puppies would be ready for adoption. Tessa is not. We’ve concluded that Tessa might not ever be adoptable, but we also aren’t calling her hospice. It’s unknown what Tessa might have to tackle next and with Pughearts and me as her foster, we will be ready to take on anything, but it’s not a burden we want future adopters to have to face.

Tessa is my baby. She is spoiled rotten just like she’s suppose to be. She spends the majority of her day being held or in my lap, and sleeps every night curled around my neck.

Please consider donating to Tessa’s care. She deserves the world and PugHearts is going to give it to her

TheaPH ID: #7125
Thea is a spunky 4 months old little girl. She lets no other dog no matter how old, or big, tell her what to do! She is full of sass and spice.

Thea loves playing tug-o-war with her foster siblings. She loves to do zoomies and she loves her food! Even at a very young age, she is super velcro. She loves to be held and snuggle. She has been sick an easy laid back puppy to foster!

TheodorePH ID: #7014
Theo was seen being dumped at an apartment complex at just 2 years of age with severe eye injuries.

We worked tirelessly giving him meds 5 times a day to save the eyes and to our great pleasure, he responded to treatment. Sadly, the trauma was too great for him to regain all his sight but he is able to see light and is not running into things like he was when he first came.

We will never know for sure but it is likely his injuries are from a dog attack and he seems very intimidated by dogs larger than him, especially if they are rough or over excited, but seems to very much enjoy the company of other pugs and will even snuggle them. He also doesn’t discriminate when it comes to people - he is yet to meet a stranger!

He adores back scratches and will make woo woo sounds for you. He is VERY excited about his meals and dances around with enthusiasm. He is working on his potty training and has made great strides. We’re sure the neuter will push him the rest of the way. He even figured out the doggy door all on his own. This happy boy will be ready in fall, once his heartworm treatment has been completed.

UPDATE

Theo is doing great and is halfway through his heartworm treatment. He will be read for his furever home by Pugs on the Bayou 2022! He is a sweet boy and VERY full of energy. Theo has dry eye and needs eye drops every day for life. He is considered vision impaired (not totally blind, per the vet). He can run and not run into things.

TravisPH ID: #7208
Please welcome Travis to PugHearts!

Travis made his way to PugHearts as an owner surrender from The Valley. When volunteers picked him up he had a large gash on his neck from a suspected dog fight, with patchy fur from being bitten by fleas. It was clear poor Travis had been an outside dog but thankfully he was heartworm negative. Travis was treated for his injuries, received his vaccines and microchip at his intake exam. He was also neutered and had his palate done so he will be breathing better!

Travis is 4 years old and is now in his foster home. He has done well with his foster siblings, and would be fine in a home with other dogs, but he is perfectly good as an only dog too. He hasn’t shown much interest in toys just yet but enjoys the occasional nylabone. He has started crate training and is doing well, with only a little fussing at first. Travis sleeps in the big bed and loves waking his foster mommy up with kisses. Despite being 22 pounds, Travis insists on being a lap dog and loves his cuddles. He has the cutest butt wiggle and the biggest smile! He does still wear a belly band but is doing great at keeping it clean and dry.

Travis is ready for his perfect forever home!

TumblePH ID: #4878
Tumble is a 13 yr old female better known as Tummy or Tum Tum. She is heartworm negative and already spayed.

From Tumble's foster: Tumble is a special needs foster, not due to health issues (as she is VERY HEALTHY), but due to fear and trust issues.

Tumble comes to PugHearts scared of everything. She does not trust men and will bark and bark to let them know to go away. She will slowly trust women and is the sweetest, gentlest, loving girl once you earn her trust.

I love and adore Tumble. Tumble and my husband....have learned to accept each other.

She is housebroken, heartworm negative, kennels on command and wags her whole body when she is happy to see you. Tumble is learning to trust my husband through food and morning coffee time. She is a typical pug and food is her motivator.

TurnerPH ID: #7209
Please welcome Turner to PugHearts

Turner was seen as a stray in The Valley. Our wonderful volunteers there spent a few hours locating him and took him to the emergency clinic there immediately. He was horribly emaciated and dehydrated so they knew instantly that he needed fluids.

Turner is about 3 years old. He made his way to Houston on Saturday and Dr. Hendrix saw him on Monday morning. His report broke all of our hearts and it’s been tough to process or post it.

Turner is heartworm positive.

Turner has 4/4 luxating patellas with a permanent 45 degree curve.

Turner has a permanent arch to his spine.

Turner is in advanced stage kidney failure.

Turner is hospice.

Dr. Hendrix neutered his on Tuesday and he did surprisingly well. There’s really not much we can do for him now. There’s no medicines to make him better, only attention and love which he is getting. He is on a strict kidney diet. Now we wait. Wait to see how he responds to the special food and to being spoiled.

He is so tiny you’d mistake him for a puppy. Turner needs your good thoughts and prayers. Turner is a special boy.

If you’re thinking, wait? Didn’t you just post about Patrick who’s in Congestive Heart Failure the answer is yes. They are currently here. Being spoiled. Being loved.

VenusPH ID: #7187
Venus is an active 2-year-old female, who came to PugHearts on October 12, 2022. She is healthy, heartworm negative, approx. 15 pounds, and is now ready for adoption. Venus is a very sweet girl and will do good in an active home with children and other small dogs.

Venus is great with kids and other dogs “her” size, she tends to get a bit dominate when larger dogs are in her space – she barks and will start being jumpy, but she has not gotten physically aggressive since coming to her foster home. She does love attention and gets very excited – sometimes forgetting her “manners”. She is working on potty and crate training – but is catching on to both very quickly.

What do I eat?

Science Diet, Small Bites: ½ cup AM; ½ cup PM

Where do I sleep?

I am working on crate training, but would really like to sleep in the bed with my human

Am I potty trained?

I am working on it! But practice is making perfect!

Am I healthy?

Yes! I am heartworm negative, and just had my big girl surgery (spay). I do not have any major health conditions!

About my future family?

I am active, so I would do best with a family who has a yard and who has a lot of time to spend playing with me! I am ok in a crate, but someone who is gone an extended amount of time during the day probably isn’t for me! Standard workday, yes – Extended workday, no way!

Wembley is known as one of the “dumpster babies” also know as the “fraggles” tossed away like trash with his umbilical cord still attached. He is 6 weeks old now born 10/7/2022.

Wembley is not a pug but when a supporter reached out for help after she found him and his two siblings tossed away in a Cheetos bag, PugHearts took them in.

Wembley is the smallest out of his siblings and the most demanding for attention. He loves to play and snuggle and explore.

YvonnePH ID: #7076
Foster Yvonne is a spunky 10 year old who came to us with the worst UTI I have ever seen in my life. She was expelling entire blood clots and we worried something may be horribly wrong internally. To our massive relief, it really was nothing but a raging UTI that we got under control after two rounds of antibiotics so she is healthy and ready to find her furever home.

Yvie is pocket size at 13 very compact pounds, and while incontinent she has 0 accidents when expressed regularly and needs no diapers even at night - it really is easy and we are happy to teach you. I would go as far as to say it’s a bonus since you don’t need to wait for her to find the right spot, you just squeeze her and she’s all done - great for rainy days!

She is crate trained and fierce. She has very many opinions and occasionally she is so bold that she tries to play with the bulldogs and they love it! She is extremely velcro, lets you hold her like a baby and when you play with her, she burrows her precious face into you. Her back legs are a little wobbly but she’d wobble across the world to be with you.

Please consider this girl if you need some spice and smiles in your life. She is everything anyone could dream of and more.

ZaraPH ID: #7177
Zara is cute as a button! She is an eight years young fawn sweetie. She is spunky and smart. She knows the word no, loves treats and learns quickly. Zara will sleep through the night in her crate just fine, once she realizes it is bed time, with no accidents. She adapted immediately to our other pups, everyone in our house and the new sounds and smells. Zara has some skin issues but, she is taking her medication like a good girl with two oatmeal baths a week and it should clear up quickly. She isn’t interested in toys much but, will do just about anything for a treat and she is not above giving you the sad eyes to get one. She will eat anything she finds but, she isn’t a chewer. Potty training is making great progress! Each day she has less and less accidents accidents in the house. She does not discriminate with cuddles, she goes from lap to lap to make sure everyone gets a chance to snuggle with her. She will be an amazing member of any family.

The most beautiful soulful brown-eyed pug ever!

Zeke is the absolute best and sweetest little boy. He gets along well with dogs of all ages. He will play with toys and LOVES the “mouth-bitey game” too. Zeke is so smart and has adapted to rules and scheduling here like he’s been here for years and not just a few days. He sleeps in the big bed every night and enjoys his morning cuddles too.

Zeke is the perfect mix of young and old and will adapt to whatever is around him. He’s pretty quiet, so I know he’d do well in an apartment, townhome or house. Zeke is 16 pounds of pure love. He does well jumping on the furniture but will use the stairs too.

Foster Zeke 4 years old

ZiggyPH ID: #7184
Please welcome this little guy to Pughearts. His name is Ziggy and he's a very small Chug at 10 pounds. But my goal is to put a little weight on him. He is pretty thin.

Ziggy is a lover and has just enough Chi in him that he selects his person and is done with it. I am so in love with him. He curls up on the corner of my arm and tucks his little nose under the arm and takes a nap. He's very difficult to sleep with if you have a problem with personal space, he doesn't have an issue with it.

He is making progress on his house manners but I still keep him in a belly band. He patrols the backyard and if he thinks he needs to protect the house he lets everyone know to stay out. He has a pretty big bark for such a tiny guy.

Ziggy is a lot of dog in a small package. His legs are long but his body is very small. He has a lot of Chi in his DNA but that's what makes him such a great companion. Love this little guy! He will make a great addition to a home with older children or just adults. Schedule a meet and greet with him to fall in love.
